When it comes to killing fleas and ticks, collar treatments aren’t talked about as much as oral or topical treatments, but you may wish to consider them as an option for your pet. Collars may be considered safer as your pet does not ingest the medication, and many owners like the freedom of a longer-lasting treatment.
Scalibor and Seresto collars contain active ingredients that are released in small doses over time. Scalibor collars are for canine use only, while Seresto has collars for both cats and dogs.
Scalibor collars provide 6-month protection against fleas and ticks, which can transmit dangerous diseases, and also controls bloodsucking by mosquitos and sandflies. Seresto collars last for 8 months, and protect against ticks and fleas (including flea eggs and larvae) and help to control sarcoptic mange in dogs.
Scalibor collars are only suitable for use on dogs from 12 weeks of age. Seresto may be used on dogs from 7 weeks, weighing 18lbs (8kg) minimum, and on cats from 10 weeks of age.
